WESTERN VISAYAS – The Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) – Regional Extension Unit No. 6, in partnership with OSHNetworks and stakeholders, conducted its 1st quarter OSHNET Meeting via teleconference using the Zoom App last February 8, 2022. The quarterly OSHNET meeting is a mechanism to synergize collaborative efforts in extensive networking via public-private partnership (PPT) of OSH programs and services in Western Visayas.

The agenda of the meeting was the presentation of the 2021 last quarter OSHNET Accomplishments, and 1st quarter OSH activities in Western Visayas. One of the major upcoming events will be the revival of the conduct of kamOSHtahan, a webinar that aims to integrate and provide Occupational Safety and Health knowledge across the workplaces from all industries. The tentative date of the 2022 1st episode of the kamOSHtahan will be on March 16, 2022, targeting the industry of dental professionals.

The committee was also able to address the following matters: 1st virtual OSHNET Summit in Visayas, advance training courses for OSHNET partners, OSHNET conduct of virtual OSH training, conduct of BOSH training for nurses in Western Visayas, and the International Labor Organization (ILO) Work Improvements in Small Enterprises (WISE) project.

“DOLE-Region 6 Director, Atty. Sixto Rodriguez and I, are both proud that in Region 6 we have the greatest number of OSHNETs compared to other areas in the country. This gathering is very timely, as we all recovering from the wrath of the recent typhoon Odette. In your meeting today, I am confident that you will have a fruitful discussion on the best strategies towards our common goal and objectives. I assure you that OSHC and DOLE will support you in your future endeavors.”  – said OSHC Executive Director, Engr. Noel C. Binag.

Atty. Devine Grace B. Gabunas, DOLE-RO6 Technical Support Services Division Chief (TSSD) delivered an inspirational message during the meeting.

 “As we started our new year, as we look into booting up our economy, and as we enter into a new phase of trying to live with a pandemic, we look more into the safety and health of our workers, and this matter is non-negotiable. The safety and health of our workers cannot be compromised, and because of that, director Rodriguez is very much happy to support the endeavors of our OSHNET partners in Western Visayas.”

The meeting was attended by DOLE-Region 6 OSH Focal Engr. Michel L. Guison, Western Visayas Safety and Health Network (WVOSHNET, Inc.) Board of Director Engr. Jun V. Vencer, Safety Organization of Negros Occidental (SONO, Inc.) newly elected President Engr. Sherwin P. Jardeleza, Guimaras OSHNET Coordinator Mr. Ruderic B. De Juan, and Occupational Health Nurses Association of the Philippines (OHNAP) – Panay Chapter Vice President Ms. Janeby J. Sun.

The OIC-Deputy Executive Director of OSHC, Engr. Connie T. Sto. Tomas was also present and addressed the matter regarding OSHNETs proposing to conduct virtual OSH training “Malaki ang maitutulong ng pagkakaroon ng virtual OSH training ng OSHNET, we find virtual training very effective, cost-efficient and we can reach to more people”. The second quarter OSHNET meeting will be conducted on April 6, 2022.
