Davao City–The OSHC-Regional Extension Unit XI hosted the KamOSHtahan sa Rehiyon Onse webinar event via Zoom last December 4, 2020 with a theme: “Integrating OSH in the Public Sector.”

The event was attended by 154 participants from the different government agencies and a few stakeholders from the private sector of Region XI. KamOSHtahan is an online event hosted by the OSHC to relentlessly integrate and provide Occupational Safety and Health knowledge across the workplaces from both the public and private sectors, and to further campaign the goal of the center which is the #Vision1Million informing the Filipino workers about their rights to Occupational Safety and Health. This is also to provide expertise and intervention mechanism to improve the workplace conditions in the Philippines especially during this time of COVID-19 pandemic.

Dir. Ofelia B. Domingo of DOLE-RO XI has given her opening remarks emphasizing the importance of institutionalizing and integrating OSH to the current programs of the government, followed by the message of the ever supportive Executive Director of the OSHC, Engr. Noel C. Binag. The highlights of the program were the discussions of several interesting topics by the event’s highly esteemed guest speakers. The first topic was about the CSC-DOH-DOLE Joint Memorandum Circular 01 S. 2020, and was discussed by Mr. Serio O. Lumba, Jr, Special Investigator III from the Civil Service Commission-Region 11. Mr. Lumba’s discussion highlighted the responsibilities and joint functions of CSC, DOH and DOLE in providing technical assistance, and shared expertise in conducting capacity building program on OSH for the government employees. The next speaker, Dr. Jehremias Florante who hailed from the Health Division of Occupational Safety and Health Center, presented the topic “COVID-19 and the New Normal” and fairly tackled the COVID- 19 situation in the Philippines. Moreover, he discussed the COVID-19 workplace safety protocols to promote the importance of adhering to the correct Covid-19 workplace etiquette, because employees’ safety especially during this pandemic should always take precedence. Another speaker from the ECC-Davao Region, Mr. Albert B. Bantan, discussed the ECC Program updates, focused mainly on the information awareness program of ECC to ensure that workers and employers are informed of their rights, benefits, and privileges under the ECP or Employees’ Compensation Program. The last topic which was the “Role of Safety Officers” was discussed by the Senior Labor Employment Officer from the DOLE-Region XI, Engr. Yolibelle A. Aviñante, the topic was mainly about the importance of Safety Officers, and as well as their role and responsibilities especially in ensuring that OSH programs and practices are properly implemented in their workplaces.

Also, a Q and A segment was organized during the event to entertain the
participants’ queries and clarifications during the discussions. And finally, to close the event, Engr. Nelia G. Granadillos– the Deputy Executive Director of the OSHC has warmly delivered her closing remarks and message for all the participants. The event has concluded successfully, imparting each participants with (additional) knowledge intended to keep them healthy, safe and secure in their respective workplaces.
