A total of 37 workers from a 29 of companies attended the free online 40-hr Basic Occupational Safety and Health Training Course for Safety Officer 2 (BOSH SO2) from February 28 to Match 4, 2022 which OSHC-REU CAR conducted.

The training aims to equip participants with the basic knowledge and skills on identifying safety, health, and environmental hazards; determining appropriate control measures, and developing and implementing OSH policies and programs.

The objective of the program is to enable the public sector to promote the culture of occupational safety and health within their respective companies in compliance with RA 11058 “An Act Strengthening Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Standards”.

The participants experienced another milestone of learning through receiving reliable information from the resource speakers. The invited resource speakers are accredited OSH Practitioners and Consultants from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Ms. Regine B. Blas, Public Relation Support Staff of OSHC-CAR discussed the importance of OSH and ways how to communicate OSH to workers thru the Training of Trainers on OSH. Mr. Gaylord S. Vicente, IT Support Staff of OSHC-CAR talked about OSH Legislations for Private Sector and OSH Program Development. Information Officer II of ECC- CAR, Mr. Dennis Garret R. Lee, discussed the Special Module on Employees’ Compensation Program.

Accredited OSH practitioners and consultants were invited to lecture on the said training.

Engr. Wilfredo A. Simon lectured on Hazards Identification, Workplace Emergency Preparedness, and Evaluation of Risks and Hazards (Working Environment Measure). SFO1 Leo A. Mendoza shared his knowledge on Safety Hazards, Development of Control Measures, and the Control Measures of Safety Hazards. Dra. Anne Joan D. Bandonill discussed Medical Surveillance and Biological Monitoring. Mariam Vanessa A. Meneses, RN, talked about the Special Module on Covid-19 to prevent and control the spread of the virus in the Workplace; and Engr. Maynard Q. Estayo discussed Accident Investigation and Risk Assessment (with JHA).

A true safety officer is not only about holding certificate but also, he/ she shall live what he/she has learned from training. In times of this, everyone must find another way to communicate and share learnings.

Congratulations to the Newly Certified Safety Officers Batch 1 who finished the 40-hr BOSH SO2.
