OSHC-REU1, together with JGDC-OSHC, conducted a BOSH Training and Workshop for SO1 as prescribed under RA 11058 or “An Act Strengthening Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Standards and Providing Penalties Thereof.” The training includes eight hours of OSH lectures and workshops and two-hours of Training of Trainers to equip the safety officer with sufficient knowledge and skills to conduct a mandatory 8-hour safety and health seminar in their workplace.
“We have allowed face to face occupational safety and health (OSH) trainings to resume in areas under the
Modified General Community Quarantine provided that the minimum health standards are complied with. In this time of pandemic, information on work safety and health is even more important and we will use all possible and safe ways to deliver that information,” said OSHC Executive Director Noel C. Binag. The five-day COSH Training features lectures and workshops on Covid-19 prevention and control in the workplace, OSH programming, policies and guidelines and its implementation and reinforcement; importance of safety and health, safety in construction site premises, excavation, and demolition; roles of safety officers,
toolbox meetings, job hazard analysis, accident investigation and OSH legislation; Employees Compensation Program; and Emergency Preparedness.
Under the DOLE Department Order 198 series of 2018 – the IRR of RA 11058 – a sufficient number of safety officers (SOs) with the appropriate level must be hired by all companies, including the small and micro enterprises based on the risk level of the establishment and number of workers. Because the construction industry is classified as high risk, the minimum SO level required for companies in this industry is SO2.
